In Arya Samaj, a prayer meeting (Shradhanjali Sabha) is held to remember a departed soul with respect, dignity, and truth. According to the Vedas and Swami Dayanand Saraswati, the soul never dies. The physical body comes to an end, but the soul continues its journey according to its Karma.
Unlike traditional customs that involve fear, complicated rituals, or unwanted demands, Arya Samaj keeps everything simple, pure, and transparent. We do not believe in feeding animals to satisfy ancestors, and we do not support expensive, superstitious practices. Instead, we gather family and friends to pray to the one formless God (OM) for the peace of the soul.
Why Arya Samaj Prayer Meeting is Different:
True Remembrance (Shraddha):
True Shraddha means showing respect through good actions. In an Arya Samaj prayer meeting, family members and friends talk about the good qualities, lessons, and noble deeds of the departed person so that future generations can follow the same path.
No Superstitions:
There is no belief in ghosts, curses, or ritual fear. The soul is under the fair and loving care of God. We perform only pure Vedic prayers.
Peace Through Sacred Havan:
A simple Agnihotra (Havan) is performed with pure desi cow ghee, dried mango wood, and Ayurvedic herbs like Guggal and Camphor. The medicinal smoke cleans the air and brings mental peace to grieving family members.
Prayers for Universal Peace:
The ceremony ends with the Vedic Shanti Path, praying for calm, strength, and harmony for the family and all living beings.
